Why Sarah Laughed #1

Sarah Laughed

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve scribbled stories, poems and lyrics in notebooks or on pieces of scrap paper but seldom shared my writing with others. Each piece is special to me and while I'd love to write the next great American novel or blockbuster screenplay, there are only so many hours in the day. With the onset (and onslaught!) of the Internet, the opportunity to share my work is finally here.

The Holy Spirit of God is Creative.

I want my personal atmosphere to be an invitation to Him, to continually walk in heavenly places. For Him alone and in Him, I create. What’s more, I laugh and cry in sheer joy of His presence and through intercessions for others.

The biblical story of Abraham, Sarah and Isaac is well known in Christian circles. Typically, we hear sermons about Sarah mocking the idea that she could have a child at her advanced age. “Shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” she asked. She did question, even laugh, and I can’t say that I blame her. To our modern way of thinking, what woman in their right mind would want to have a baby at ninety, let alone post-menopause?

While I stared at the Sarah document on my computer screen, I ‘felt’ the smell of roses. Immediately, I paused. Another wave passed over me and this time it smelled fruity, like oranges or tangerine blossoms. How, I asked, could I feel a sweet smelling aroma or any aroma? Knowing Holy Spirit was speaking to me once again, I waited, listening for His voice. And, you guessed it, I cried.

Isaac means laughter. God was birthing new life into Sarah in a way that made little natural sense. He has a habit of doing such things. He's ever ready to pour out His love in ways that we might consider unusual and peculiar. He also approves what we might not approve.
